Take Advantage of Cherry Blossom Season in Vancouver

  • April 07, 2021

The cherry blossom trees are finally in bloom in Vancouver, which means it’s time to get outdoors and enjoy all that these stunning trees have to offer. Scattered throughout the city, we’ve compiled a list of our favourite places to view cherry blossom trees in person (and don’t forget to bring your camera!).

Nitobe Memorial Garden, UBC

Did you know that the University of British Columbia in Vancouver has its very own Japanese garden? It goes by the name of the Nitobe Memorial Garden and in spring, it comes alive with beautiful cherry blossom trees. Some of the trees overlook a picturesque pond, which makes it a truly lovely spot to spend an afternoon.

Queen Elizabeth Park

There’s no better place to spend a sunny day in April or May than at Queen Elizabeth Park. This park has many cherry blossom trees, so it’s a great spot for photos. But the park also happens to sit on the highest point in Vancouver, which makes it a must-visit for anyone that enjoys skyline views. In fact, from Queen Elizabeth Park visitors will be treated to an incredible view of downtown Vancouver, the water, and the North Shore mountains.

VanDusen Botanical Garden

The VanDusen Botanical Garden is home to a cherry blossom tree grove that you won’t want to miss come spring. The garden’s resident cherry blossoms are all currently in bloom, and they offer something a little bit different from many of the others you’ll find in Vancouver. That’s because the VanDusen Botanical Garden has a rarer variety of cherry blossom known as the Shaughnessy, or “Beni-shidare.” Reserve your admission in advance on the garden’s website.

If you’re visiting Vancouver this April or May, then keep your eyes peeled for cherry blossom trees. And if you’re looking for a place to stay during your trip, we recommend booking a room at the Hotel BLU Vancouver. We combine family-friendly amenities and competitive rates with an unbeatable location near some of the city’s resident cherry blossom trees.
