Vancouver is home to the arts. The Vancouver Art Gallery is one of the most forward-looking in the country, and talented creators from all around the country come to Vancouver to be inspired.

Are you looking for the new idea that will get you to the next level? Come to Vancouver.

VANCOUVER INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

Vancouver International Film Festival is globally renowned for offering vital, searing cinema to true cinephiles.
While VIFF attracts its fair share of stars to Vancouver, the focus of the festival is placed squarely on the films themselves. This is a great opportunity to witness incendiary cinema from all around the globe in its truest setting – a packed theatre, surrounded by fellow aficionados experiencing great films together and alone at the very same time.

This is looking to be a banner year for VIFF. Here are some films we’re looking forward to experiencing.

Checkered Ninja: This Danish animated film LOOKS like your average Dreamworks-style family films like Despicable Me or the Minions movies, but it is anything but. The story of a young bullied teen who befriends a magically enchanted stuffed ninja doll, this is a naughty tale full of profanity but also heart. It’s a hilarious look at what it’s like to be a teen with a dark, dark sense of humour.

Vanishing Days: Zhu Xin is a Chinese film wunderkind, creating this dreamlike meditation on trauma and family when he was only 21. With a keen eye for composition and a lyrical sense of connection, Zhu’s film is sure to be a festival favourite.

Stiegg Larsson: The Man Who Played With Fire: Famous for writing the “Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” series, in North America, many don’t know that Stiegg Larsson’s novels were his hobby. For years, he has been an investigative journalist who has been tracking the rise of the far-right and white nationalism in Europe. This film explores his investigation and his findings in detail, creating an explosive narrative you can’t afford to ignore.

Coming for VIFF? Stay at Hotel Blu for a luxury experience that’s as singular as the films you watch. Book your stay today.
